For me, this is a hobby, pure and simple. I'm retired now, so I have time to play with something that I always wanted to do when I was in my 20s. I just wish my ears were still in their 20s.
If you are going with a PC, make sure you get something that will handle audio well. My main recording PC is a Lenovo H50-50 with the 3.2gHz I5 with a Tascam interface. I run Reaper for my DAW and it handles things well. I tried using my old Win7 I3 laptop, and it had issues with dropouts and lags. With Win7 support dropped, I ended up buying a new I7 laptop, but have yet to hook the interface up to it. I like a real desktop myself.
