To stereo or not

I am the bassist/engineer of a three peice. Trying to record a demo "live". Useing limited resouces I'm recording on a TASCAM 424 4 track. I track the vocal and guitar on separate tracks (2&3) and I'm mixing the drums and bass through a stereo console and feed said A&B channels in to separate tracks (1&4). I like the stereo separation this gives the drums. The only draw back is I cant get the definition I want out of the bass guitar. Should I track it separately or do some thing else. Any and all ideas will help.

Compress the bass like crazy, and set up the EQ so it's well-defined. Don't take the stereo out of the drums!
